Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have Parkinson disease and have recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Doctor has prescribed alendronate 70 MG. I am 83 years old. After reading the side effects it looks like they might be more problematic than osteoporosis itself. What is your opinion?
Hello, It is hard to say. For the most part alendronate is safe in most people if it is used for 5 years or less. The list of side effects is frightening. This is something that you have to discuss with your doctor and make a decision one way or another. There is no right or wrong answer to this. If you fall and break a bone, the suffering could be awful. Alendronate may help prevent that. You have to decide if the risk is worth the benefits. Hard decision. Best wishes
