Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst of 9cm. I had a blood test last week and the tumour markers were normal. I am 76 years old and realize that my age is no in my favour. Should I see a gyn/oncologist or just a gyn? Thank you. How long do you think I will have to wait for a biopsy....I live in Richmond, bc.
Simple ovarian cyst generally only require follow up ultrasound. As tumour markers are negative, this almost rules out malignancy Simple ovarian cyst may require treatment if it cause symptoms, size increases or there is infection in the cyst. You may need clinical correlation for need of surgery. As it is 9.0 cm in size, chances of spontaneous resolution is less.
