Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

Since the bruise(blood clot) under your ankle is painful, a bone injury is likely. You need to get an X-ray of the area done. MRI is the best investigation to diagnose the internal knee joint structures injury. Till then avoid weight bearing on the ankle and keep the leg elevated on two pillows.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
