Suggest Treatment For Pain And Discomfort After Excessive Alcohol Intake

The loss of my cat sent me on a three day bender last weekend (hey, I liked the fuzzball), haven t been eating too healthy, haven t had much in the way of vitamins, so after spending Thursday and Friday drunk, and Saturday tipsy, I awoke Sunday to a rather swollen liver. It s been getting a little better, but I can still feel it and there s still a light pain/discomfort if I move a certain way. I ve basically been drinking only water and green tea (with coffee in the mornings) since. If I abstain from alcohol, continue consuming the fluids I have been (green tea, coffee, and water), and eat more greens/vitamins, how long until I might expect it to get to some semblance of normal?

Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

Discomfort/pain in right upper abdomen due to chronic alcohol intake may be due to its effects on liver or pancreas. If the pain is immediate on taking alcohol or with small amount of alcohol,it can be due to gastritis.

If I were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Investigations like liver function tests,USG abdo to rule out effects on liver or pancreas.Accordingly, further follow up from physician will be necessary.
-Antacid like tab ranitidine 150 mg twice in a day for 3 days.
-Avoid alcohol and caffeine as it may increase your symptoms.Have adequate intake of water for better hydration.

Hope this information helps.
Thanks.
