Suggest Treatment For Pain And Hearing Loss Post Ear Cleaning With Suctioning

I have had a tube in my left ear for years. I go to the Doctors twice a year for cleaning...suctioning. Well this time I went to the Doctor, I had my usual cleaning with the suctioning. I still have so much pain, pressure, and hearing loss. I went to another Doctor and they said the wax is out of my ear. However, there is a lot of wax compacted in the tube. I tried to drops to soften the wax and then the suctioning. No success. I screamed and jerked because its so unbearable. My question is...Can my Doctor put me under some kind of anesthesia so I dont feel anything? I dont care if its general, twilight or whatever else they have.

Hello,

Since you have severe pain, hearing loss post ear cleaning, you are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT. You have a history of having tubes in your left ear for years, it could be infection that may be causing you pain. Wax in the tubes need to be managed and treated by ENT surgeons, do not try to do it by your self, you may damage your ear permanently.

Your treating doctor may tell you to do Audiology test to detect the degree of hearing loss. You may require to do CT or MRI. It will either be treated with medicines or surgery depending on your clinical symptoms. You are suggested to get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
