Suggest Treatment For Pain And Restricted Movement In Shoulder

Hi Doctor Rynne, my 16yr old son plays basketball most of the year. He hurt his shoulder well over a month ago. He refuses to listen to me, telling him to give it a rest, ice and ibuprofen. His shoulder hurts once he lifts his arm up at about shoulder height. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

According to the history, I think that he might have some problem in tendon in the shoulder most probably supraspinatus tendon. There is no need to panic treatment are available. You have to visit an orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible and get an X-ray or MRI done. Do not self medicate with analgesics. This has to be treated at the earliest chances of recovery are very high in the early stages.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Asif, General & Family Physician
