Suggest Treatment For Pain And Stiffness In The Groin Area

I have stiff joints ( hips, knee, shoulders, and back ) It is painful and the doctors have ruled out RA or any kind of diseases that may cause this condition. I originally went on two long extended hikes up some mountains and my groin area became very stiff and I could hardly walk. This took 2 months to clear up and left me feeling stiff and sore in the areas I mentioned above. I take pain meds to help get through the days. I am 67 years old male and have enjoyed hiking, biking, and walking for years. I am not sure where to turn next. Can you give me some direction. I have never had this happen before and maintained a healthy active life. I have had two knee surgeries from basketball injuries while younger and one shoulder surgery about 6 years ago. These surgeries were successful and I healed up fine.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you explain might be due to proximal myopathy. This is a condition that involves proximal muscles in upper and lower limbs (shoulders, upper arms, upper back, hips, etc).

You will need to do several examinations to diagnose it (electromyograme, nerve conduction tests, muscle biopsy) and also other tests to find the cause of it (sometimes endocrine and metabolic tests like thyroid test, creatinine and vitamin D levels).

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj,
