Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling At The Wound Site
I scraped my knee a three days ago. I have been on antibiotics and have been applying antibiotic ointment on the wound. I think it is a fairly superficial wound though there was somepuss discharge, specially everytime i apply the ointment. I have been leaving it open, and it seems to be drying up well. My concern is that the back of it is yellowish in color. Is that normal? There is still some pain and swelling.
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Yellowish base and pus discharge indicate that you have developed wound infection. I suggest you to continue with Oral antibiotics for a week. My choice of Oral antibiotics would be either from a penicillin group e.g flucloxacillin Or from a cephalosporin group e.g cephalexin. Clean the wound after washing your hands with a sterile gauze piece dipped in an antiseptic e.g betadine solution. You may cover the wound with a sterile dressing. An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily will provide symptomatic relief from pain.
