How Can An Wound In A Diabetic Patient Be Appropriately Treated?
slow healing wound over two years on leg of diabetic woman, 71. Pus coming from wound 2x4 ins large. Antibiotics not producing any improvement. Blood sugar good. Pain from deteriorating skin surrounding wound increasing discomfort. What treatment should be used next?
Dear Sir/Madam, welcome to HCM Slow healing wound are more common if they are venous ulcers or if the wound i situated over a joint or pressure bearing areas. As you said the sugars are good now we have to concentrate on the wound infection itself. Please take the pus sample and send for culture and sensitivity. Antibiotics can be given as per the sensitivity report. Take an X ray of the affected part to rule out any osteomyelitis. Third thing is to go for a through wound debridement to remove all slough and promote wound healing. Hope i have answered your query Dr.Riyaz Sheriff
