Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Wrist After Injury
My husband has an injury to his right wrist. He is a drummer. (He has a old injury to his wrist - a hairline fracture from a roller skating accident in his teens. He is now 58 years old.) He had a performance yesterday and now the wrist is swollen and painful. We have iced it, but there s only slight improvement in the pain. Can you suggest a treatment/course of action?
Based on your description, it appears that your husband might have sprained ligament of the wrist, which has resulted in pain and swelling of the wrist.
It needs to ascertain what could be the underlying cause. For that he needs to take x-ray of wrist joint.
Kindly consult Orthopedician with the x-ray for clinical evaluation. If there is a sprain in the ligament, he would require immobilisation of the wrists along with anti-inflammatory analgesic medications.
In case any other cause is noticed, it needs to be treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
