Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling On Knee After Injury

Hello, I want to know if I should really go in for a second opinion on my knee.. I hurt it Sunday morning (it is now Wednesday afternoon) I heard a very loud pop when I was walking. the knee swelled up immediately and I have been unable to put much if any weight on it. I went to the doctor Monday afternoon and I was told that I was fine. might have just sprained it. I am having a hard time going about my day activities and am unable to ben my knee all the way. once I get to a 90 angle It feels like there is a tremendous amount of pressure building up. I tried to take a nice step earlier today and it felt like my knee was about to bend the wrong way backwards. it feels really unstable whenever I try to put weight on it.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the amount of unbearable pain indicates obvious damage to internal structures. Over and above simple sprain, this sounds more likely to be damage or tear of knee joint ligaments or meniscus like:
- Anterior or posterior cruciate ligament
- Medial or lateral collateral ligament
- Medial or lateral meniscus

It is best recommended to consult an expert orthopedic specialist and discuss the need of an urgent MRI knee joint. Though primary relief would be with ice application and analgesic medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
