Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling On The Ankles

What causes swollen left ankle with pain with dry flakey skin. I have seen a dermatologist and percribed creams which cleared up the skin temporarily. He said this is only a bandage and that I have underlineing problems. He said my swelling is a possible vein problem. I have been diagnosed with sciatic nerve damage and I have a aortic aneurysm. I do drink alcohol moderate to excess. Also my gluten is at 7.2 Again all is at my left ankle. Plasce Advise Lance

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The swelling of the ankle can be related to phlebitis which is an inflammation of the vein.

I suggest doing an ultrasound of the ankle to check for blood clots.

Meanwhile, I suggest using anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to treat the infection.

I also recommend maintaining the legs elevated to prevent further swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
