Suggest Treatment For Pain And Tenderness In The Back Of Head

I am 49 year old female...I came home last Monday night to severe tenderness in the back of my head (right side), almost feels like a severe bruise. I did not injur myself nor have I been sick. I have tried taking Ibprofen and icing the entire week. I woke up this morning to have the pain and tenderness moved to now the opposite side (still on the right as well...have sight nausea feeling, a lump in the neck on my right side and feeling of pressure and now am having headaches. I have gone today to my local ER to have them perform any tests or scans, to only give me tylenol and tell me it could be a pimple or a clogged saliva gland and to suck on lemon drops. I am frustrated to say the least when I know if it is a pimple and certainly a pimple is not the entire head.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Headache could be related to sinusitis, migraine, visual problems like refractive errors or meningitis. Although you have mentioned no history of trauma, I would suggest you to take CT brain to rule out any contusion, aneurysm. Any history of fever may indicate meningitis or encephalitis. Lumbar puncture may be required in such cases.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
