Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This morning I yawned and my ear cracked, and all along my jaw. Now my ear and jaw hurt sharply if I open my mouth too wide (to yawn, eat, etc) My ear is not blocked and my jaw and ear are not popping anymore, there is only deep pain in my ear and jaw. What does it mean?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain crackling sound in ear along with pain in ear and jaw on opening mouth wide is due to Trauma to the jaw joint while yawning as you might have opened the mouth too wide leading to conditions like displacement of articular disc that is present as a soft cushion between the bony ends of jaw joint. Other case can be slight dislocation of the condylar head of mandible.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a full mouth x ray known as Orthopantomogam [OPG] can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned once the cause is ruled out.. As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone, do warm compresses, take a soft diet and avoid excessive mouth opening.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
