Suggest Treatment For Pain In Fingers

Over the last month I have been experiencing pain in my fingers when I hold something cold, even for a short amount of time. It starts off as pins and needles, then becomes an itchy painful sensation. My fingers then become red and then are warm to the touch - the itchy pain is still apparent then it gradually wears off. It used to be just when I hold something cold but yesterday I experienced it when I was walking my dog in the early morning when there was only a slight chill in the air and today they started to hurt when I was stood in front of a refrigerated counter at the store. I am otherwise active and healthy 42 year old. I am a little iron deficient but I take an iron supplement. I have a very slight heart murmur following mono when I was 19 years old that has never been problematic.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your condition. The you describes your symptoms it seems to be Raynaud's disease which manifests as recurrent vasospasm of the finger and toes which usually occurs in response to stress or cold. If there isn't any underlying disorder then this accounts to the category of primary Raynaud's disease and lifestyle modification is generally the 1st line treatment. You need to avoid the precipitating factors and wear gloves and keep your hands warm. If these measures don't control the symptoms then we need to add pharmacological treatment with drugs that will prevent constriction of your blood vessels in finger like Ca channel blocker and it will improve your condition.
Hope this helps you.
Regards.
