Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hurt my knee week ago squatting. Now knee seems unstable, painful. Worst pain is lifting my leg straight up (unloading the weight). Doesn t hurt with bending unloaded. But often when walking it feels like it will give way. No real swelling that I ve seen. Does seem to be pain above knee in area of patellar tendon when laying straight in bed. I do feel a bit better wearing a support brace. Not sure if I should wait this out and do conservative therapy like rest, ice, brace or go to Orthopod now and get examined.
Since it is already 1 week, I would recommend you to consult an orthopedist, as there are chances of a ligament tear (the giving away feeling suggest this), which might need more strict immobilisation and reassessment later. Meanwhile, you can take ibuprofen 2-3 times a day for temporary pain relief.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
