I wear chain metal glove for work I m a butcher 16 years , today for some reason the knuckle on the back of my hand beginning of middle finger can t bear anything to touch it . The skin is bright red it doesn t look swollen though is painful to make a fist . There is no instance such as hitting the knuckle to produce this pain . Almost thought my hand may have got a little bigger overnight as the mesh gloves are size fitted I ve had the same one for the past 5 years ...... Any advice ?
The pain in knuckles with swelling indicates possible inflammation secondary to some sort of abrasion or unnoticed trauma or undue compression of some type. My guidelines in this regard: - Remove the ring at first instance - Apply ice for 5 minutes each 4 times a day - Avoid hand in dependent position - Avoid weight lifting with that hand - Keep your blood sugar under control - Take tablet ibuprofen (400 mg) after meals if no history of drug sensitivity provided no history of drug sensitivity
Do follow up for progress of the condition after 24 hours of above or early as per your need.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
