Suggest Treatment For Pain In Lower Back While Bending And Sitting Post Injury

My son fell skiing - high jump, came down in a sitting position on ice. He continued skiing but now has a baseball size swelling on the lower back above his buttock. No numbness in the legs or anything, just painful bending, sitting etc. - Should I just continue to ice it and give him ibuprofen and see how he is over night?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
NO, this is suggestive of a injury with a collection of blood, needs urgent attention. Good that he has no muscle weakness and can move his legs. However, this swelling, needs attention. It will need a ultrasound examonation to confirm the injury anad then the blood would be drained out, via a small cut. No sutures will be used.
