Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Calf

Hello, I am a 22 year old female. I have had a pain in my right calf for about a week and it hasn t gone away. I ve given myself a massage as I thought it was probably a strain. How do I know if it s something more serious than a muscle strain? The pain is worse when I m driving or if I cross my right leg over my left. My mom thinks it might be a side effect of the birth control I just started (never been on it before). Can you provide insight?
