Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Chest And Arm

I took a trip to the ER due to pains in chest and arm. I had an EKG, blood work, and chest x-ray performed while there. Doctor said all were normal, and it is most likely muscular. Is this sufficient testing to rule out heart conditions? Should I make appointment with cardiologist anyway? I am 28 with strong family history of cardiac problems - heart attack/stroke/congestive heart failure. My bp is and always has been in normal range, and I am otherwise healthy.

Hello,
Thank you for your query

Would you please clarify a few things for me?

-what is your height and weight?
-do you smoke or consume alcohol?
-could you please describe the pain? Where did it start and where did it radiate?
-did you have any giddiness, sweating or palpitations during the episode?
-how long did the pain last? What were you doing when it occurred?
-do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
-did you have a reason for the muscle pain (lifting weights or strenuous work/exercise?)

I recommend :
-a physician/cardiologist consult to check the status of your cardiovascular system.
-a treadmill stress test to see for risk of developing coronary artery disease
-an echocardiogram
-blood tests (complete blood count, lipid profile, blood glucose panel, kidney and liver function tests),if not already done
- urine analysis.

If you had pain while they took the ECG and you have had paid for at least a half hour before the ER visit, the ECG would show changes. If it was normal, and all your other parameters (heart rate, blood pressure, blood work) was normal, then it probably was a muscle pain.

However, since you have a strong family history of heart disease, I recommend that you get a full cardiac evaluation by a cardiologist and fitness evaluation by your physician.

In the meantime, eat healthy, stay well hydrated, get adequate rest and exercise. Don't start any new exercise routine until you get cleared by your doctor.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
