My hands are so painful from arthritis. Do you consider Meloxicom a safe drug ? I discontinued it see if a cough that had hung on for months. Had been taking proton pump inhibitors along with Meloxicom. I stopped all of it and reflux and cough are gone, but my arthritis is flaring. Especially my hands. What is the best treatment.?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, I think you may use stronger analgesics or painkillers with lesser doses like Tylenol tabs combined with or without prednisone; hot and gentle massaging with topical anti-inflammatory gels will be effective in most of the cases.

If pain persists, for my patients I recommend further investigations and X-rays for proper evaluation and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ahmed Aly Hassan
