Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Jaw After A Dental Procedure

I had a molar that had a filling. The filling fell out and I had one day of pain. I used temporary filling for about three weeks with no pain at all. I went to the dentist he suggested I have the tooth pulled or a root canal however the tooth was visible so he agreed to fill it for me. I had the tooth filled. He gave me an antibiotic and 800 mg of Motrin. It has only been 1 day and I have had 1 day of antibiotic. I have right cheek bone pain that expands into right temple. The pain medicine takes the edge off and sometimes the pain will dissipate and then return it s not horrible but it s constant and feels more like a throbbing. Is this normal pain for a cavity filling?? Is there something more I should be doing??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be a normal pain because of extracting tooth and other procedures like root canal. You can take antibiotics and painkillers prescribed for 3 weeks. If you are not feeling better consult a maxillofacial surgeon who may take x-ray and see if there is any localized pus or abscess or maxillary sinusitis, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
