Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Knee Of An Elderly Person
My 80 year old mother lives with me after being diagnosed with Posterior Cortical Atrophy (Alzheimers). She has bad knees as well and has fallen a few times this week. We have an appointment scheduled with the orthopaedic doctor but I am wondering if I can give her something stronger than Aleve. She s in a lot of pain and has a prescription not ever used for Hydrocodone Acetaminoph 7.5-325. I don t want anything to make her more unstable.... Thanks, YYYY@YYYY
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below:
1.Do a full blood count with differential 2. Do ESR & CRP test 3. Do a musculoskeletal clinical examination by your local orthopedic doctors to rule out any injury history and as she has Alzheimer's disease and it has no connection with knee pathology. Treatment depends upon cause of the problem only.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
