Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m asking for my 19 year old son in law. He played baseball regularly in high school, and noticed dull knee pain in the back of his knee after repeatedly sliding into base. It s plagued him for the last 6 months now. He has some trouble squatting and kneeling. He has no primary care physician, and insurance already covered a physical this year. (He did not report this pain at that time, although he did have it.) What would be the best course of action to diagnose this problem? (Should he see an orthopedic surgeon? Or an sports medicne PT? What direction should he look in?) Thank you!
Considering the history that your son in law sustained pain in knee due to repeated sliding into base during baseball, the symptoms can be attributed to musculo-skeletal injury, most likely a ligament injury.
Such injuries tend to aggravate while performing terminal knee movements like squatting and kneeling, as mentioned in your post. Symptomatic relief can be obtained by heat therapy, application of analgesic & muscle relaxant gel, intake of analgesics like Diclofenac (to be taken after food) + Pantoprazole (to be taken 30 minutes before meals).
If symptoms still persist, kindly consult an Orthopedician for proper clinical examination. Investigations like X ray & MRI of the knee joint will be helpful in detecting the exact nature and severity of the injury.
Wishing him a Good Health. Take care.
