Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Lower Rib Cage

I woke up with moderate pain in my right chest. Certain movement or deep inhalation make it worse. The pain goes away if I sit or lie down quietly. The pain is mostly in my lower rib cage but extends up to beneath my nipple. I m a white male, 68 years old and currently taking antibiotics for folliculitis.

Hello,

The type of pain you mentioned can be caused most commonly due to musculoskeletal reasons, costochondritis, bronchitis. If you don't have any shortness of breath, palpitations, syncope cardiac causes are ruled out, also the type of pain (location and characteristics) you mentioned don't suggest cardiac cause.

I would suggest you to:
- Take Analgesic medication containing a muscle relaxant (Paracetamol + Orphenadrine).
- Take adequate fluids, rest.
- If it still persists after 5 days, you should visit a doctor and a chest X-ray should be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Wajahat Baig, Internal Medicine Specialist
