Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Nipples Since Perimenopause

Hi, Since I ve been going through peri-menopause my nipples (not the breast tissue) hurt to the touch. This is happening for about a week before I m supposed to start my period. My periods are irregular so sometimes the nipple pain lasts longer. Like this week I ve been feeling pre-menstrual and havn t had a period in 40 ish days. I m worried. There is no discharge or any other changes that I can tell.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Irregular periods with pain in nipples can be due to hormonal imbalance. I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment, ultrasound abdomen, blood hormone levels and thus management. Pain in nipples may be due to mastalgia. I suggest you to consult your surgeon for clinical assessment of the breast and also to get an ultrasound of breast done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
