Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Right Side Of The Chest

I am having pain in the right side of my chest, in the collar bone, shoulder blade and down the arm. Coughing is very painful, coughing up mucus. I had a cervical spinal fusion 3 weeks ago, thought the pain was fro that, but before the surgery, my pain was on the left side. Could I have an infection in my lung?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Though the pain can be due to spinal issue again with triggered by coughing vigorously however chest infection needs to be ruled out with chest X-ray and CT chest if needed. Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen alongside anti-tussive medicine may be helpful. Antibiotics may also be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
