I ve had sinus infections for 4 months I m on my 4th antibiotic now. Had xrays and they came back ok. Now my left side of my head, ear, glands and throat are sore. Not a sore throat, but sore to push on it. Have noticed the last couple of days when blowing my nose it is bleeding alittle and some mucus when I cough up has blood in it.

Hello,

You have history of sinus infection. Presently you are having pain in the throat and discomfort (L) ear. You are suggested to gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. Take steam inhalation twice daily regularly. Take antihistamines at bedtime to ease discomfort. Do not blow your nose too hard. Take liquid food for a couple of days so that you do not hurt your throat. Give rest to your throat, avoid talking.

Ears may hurt due to AOM / CSOM, fluid accumulation in the ear with infection spreading to the glands. You can take a course of antibiotics like doxycycline or Augmentin. Take acetaminophen, one SOS when required to ease pain, swelling and inflammation. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get X-ray PNS done to detect any nasal septal deviation. Your treating doctor may recommend correction surgery if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
