Suggest Treatment For Pain On Abdomen And Hip Area

I have had a pain on my lower right side near my abdomen and right hip area for months now. It used to just be mainly at night when I would experience the pain and would not be able to lay on my right side. The pain/discomfort is constant now and I still can not lay on my right side or sit to long with any pressure/weight on that side. Should I see my doctor? I also experience stomach cramps and tightness after I eat sometimes and will feel like I need to use the restroom but I can never usually go , I assumed that may have something to do with my sleeve surgery that I had in November of 2014.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

- What is your gender? If you are a female, it is possible that you have an infection in the pelvic region that is causing this lower abdominal pain. Alternately, it is possible that you have a colonic infection like diverticulitis. Do you have normal bowel movements? I would suggest you get an ultrasound / CT scan done of your abdomen as well as an X-ray / CT scan of your hip. This would help get a better picture.

The cramps and tightness you experience after eating are likely related to your sleeve gastrectomy. I would suggest you go over the quantity of food you eat in one setting and maybe decrease the size of these and increase the frequency if required to meet your calorie goal. If this discomfort/pain persists, you could see a doctor and get the imaging.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
