Suggest Treatment For Pain On Legs After Injury

Football player that was going after a bad snap (player is the punter) felt a pop in the area of the proximal fifth metatarsal. Walks with a slight limp and can feel less pain if weight-bearing is on heel or ball of foot. Denies any previous serious injury.

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

It would be a really good idea to check an x ray. AN injury liek that could be a basic dislocation. The pop feeling you have mentioned is quite typical to a dislocation in fact. As long as you have the dislocation, you will need to limp

The fact also remains that the dislocations can be managed quite simply. There are maneuvers for almost every kind of dislocation where the joint can be replaced immediately and this leads to an almost instant relief.

Of course we need to make sure that it is not a soft tissue injury. BUT I seriously dont think that this picture describes a soft tissue injury.
A bony injury would cause too much pain (usually), so I dont think its that. Besides, it can be shown in the same x ray.

So I think X ray is a must

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.
