Suggest Treatment For Pain On The Right Side Of The Abdomen
My husband (age 49) has had pain on the right side of his abdomen just under the ribcage in an area the size of his fist for about a week. he thought it could be his gallbladder but that is on the other side apparently. It may be unrelated, but he has also had shortness of breath and tires easily. The pain is worse when he leans forward and not too bad if he is laying down or sitting up straight.
The gallbladder is actually on the right side of the abdomen so it is advisable for your husband to have an ultrasound to rule out problems with the gallbladder such as gallbladder stones. The ultrasound will also rule out liver masses and problems with the kidney and pancreas as well.
The pain can also be of muscular origin, especially because it is affected by the position. In the same area, a patient may have pain due to constipation as the large bowel goes through there. Pneumonia (lung infection) that affects the lower right lobe may also cause pain in the right side of the tummy.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
