Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
On my right foot on the big toe there s a brown line underneath the nail..When pressure is applied either by my shoe shifting doing a workout,Or when applying pressure with my fingertips at the tip it s very painful. To minimize the pain I clipped down the nail, But when in bed under the sheets the blanket tends to put pressure on the tip and the pain is really excruciating.
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like you have an infection with accumulation of pus under the nail. Try hot fomentation to ease the pain. I would suggest you to consult a general surgeon who would drain the pus if required and put you on antibiotics and pain killers. I hope you don't have history of trauma to your toe. Even wearing ill fitting shoes can cause such pain. In that case wear flip flops for sometime, get better shoes and give hot fomentation for few days. You will be fine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Deepti Shivakumar
