Suggest Treatment For Pain, Redness And Swelling Around Nipple Area
Around 1pm today my right breast started hurting around nipple area. Now, at 7:30pm the area is red, swollen, uncomfortable and have a few red streaks radiating out. I m 57 and have had mastitis when I was 35. This feels similar. Can it be mastitis?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Experiencing pain, redness and swelling around nipple area could be due to acute infection like 'carbuncle'. Kindly take the following measures to overcome the problem. 1. Analgeic medications like Ibuprofen twice daily after food. 2. A course of antibiotics like Amoxacillin and Clavulenic acid orally. 3. You may apply warm compresion. In case the symptoms does not subside, the lesion could be little deeper in the for of abscess, which requires incision and drainage. For that you need to consult Surgeon to be managed effectively. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
