Suggest Treatment For Pain, Swelling And Rashes On The Ankles
Thank you. I ve had three for the of my pancreas removed 4 months ago, been hospitalized 4 time since then with infections. I also was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I had cellulitis 4 wks ago. I started having pain, swelling and a rash on my left ankle. The rash is better but the pain and swelling are moving up my left. I wear 37 1/2 mcg of fentanyl and the pain is still off the charts. Should go to the ER? I have an appointment with a surgeon Tuesday at UAB. l
You will need to have a doppler ultrasound of the leg to rule out deep vein thrombosis. Because the infection is cleared but the swelling is still there and is moving up the leg, it is crucial to rule out deep vein thrombosis as sometimes it can be confused with cellulitis.
Having a consultation with your doctor as soon as possible is very important so I would recommend you to call and set an appointment soon, if you are not able to have the appointment soon with your doctor, you might need to go to ER and have the proper examinations there.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
