General & Family Physician 's  Response
In majority of cases, patient experience no life-altering discomfort, and symptomatic treatment with omeprazole or ranitidine is required in hiatus hernia. Symptomatic treatment is sufficient. Surgery is needed for resistant cases. But there are some preventive measures you can adopt:
1.     Continue omeprazole 20 mg daily empty stomach
2.     Domperidone 10 mg per oral when you feel nausea
3.     Avoid alcohol, smoking, spicy food, fatty foods, mint, tomato based food, citrus fruits and non-steroidal pain killer
4.     Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down
5.     Do not take heavy meal at a time. divide your meal into smaller parts
6.     Raise the head of your bed
7.     Investigation –Barium meal X – ray
8.     Consult a gastrointestinal surgeon for surgical correction of hiatus hernia
