Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I sprained my ankle (self diagnosis) while playing soccer. I had excruciating pain at the time it occurred for a couple hours. The pain since has been tolerable and I am able to walk on it. Only pain is when I rotate my foot inward. My concern is the fact 4 days post sprain I have 1/2 inch swelling from knee down to ankle (compared to other leg) and I can feel sharp objects but not just general touch. I don t have pain in the calf so I am not worried about a DVT. Do you think it could be nerve damage and should I get an X-ray?
Since your foot has swollen and you are having difficulty bearing weight it is advised that you get it checked by an orthopaedic surgeon.
He will do a clinical examination and may also advise an X-ray or CT scan to ascertain Whether it is a bony injury or soft tissue injury.
Meanwhile, avoid bearing weight on that foot and apply a crepe bandage over it. You can take over the counter painkiller like naproxen to relieve pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman,
