Suggest Treatment For Painful Bruise From A Blunt Trauma On Leg

I have a serious bruise from a blunt trauma on my leg that causes burning pain when going from a position of elevation to vertical and when standing still. The swelling is much less now but I noticed my foot is now black and blue in addition to the multicolor bruising on my shin. The site of the injury is the lower tibia shin side. The initial swelling was immediate and numbing. Once I get moving it is not painful but as soon as I stop it feels like acid going through my veins. WONDERING if I should stay off it and for how long

Hello,

You have history of a blunt trauma on the shin of your leg. Presently you are suffering from burning pain, soreness and swelling. You are suggested to get X-ray and MRI done, get clinically examined by an orthopedist. Your symptoms can be indicative of a blood clot in a deep vein, deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Other medical condition can that can cause swollen shin is injury, bruises, fractures, or sprains. If there is a fracture, you will be treated accordingly.

If there is a fracture or if there is a blood clot, you will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, you can apply ointment thrombophop, on the area affected to reduce the blood clots formed under the skin. Numbness can be due to injury, damage to the nerve or overuse. Stay at rest and get nerve conduction velocity tests done to detect the degree of damage (neuropathy). Keep the leg elevated on a stool while sitting or on a pillow while on bed so that the swelling, soreness gets reduced.

You can take naproxen, one stat to get relieve from pain. Place ice packs wrapped in towels on the affected area for 15 minutes every few hours until symptoms subside. Stay at rest and avoid unnecessary movement. Get connected to a Physical therapist you may need physiotherapy. Stay away from addictions if any. You can take Nerve Up OD, it will give you relieve.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
