Suggest Treatment For Painful Bruising In The Leg

Morning Dr Rynne, 2 weeks ago I had a fall hurting my left knee. At first it appeared to be a cut and lots of grazing to the leg, as days went on the bruising became intense and very black. 2 weeks later most of the bruising has gone but is still spreading down the leg and is going towards my ankle. Whilst the rest of the leg is healing the new bruising is a little painful. Should I be concerned about this or is it just general healing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal for the bruising to move down the leg and towards the ankle when a patient hurts and bruises the knee. This is due to gravity. Normally, the area that got hurt starts to heal and the bruising fades there but there is bruising in the areas below due to the blood going down the leg with gravity.

You do not need to worry about this and you do not need certain treatment either. The bruising should completely disappear in the next couple of weeks.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
