Suggest Treatment For Painful Bruising On Ribs After Injury
Hello, I have a friend who fell and hit her ribs. She has a 5 inch scrape on the right side above her hip but her left side hurts very bad. She did notice blood after a BM shortly after the incident. Are those two related or not? She said the left side is the side that hurts but there is no swelling or bruising. The right side has the scrape and it is bruised but does not hurt. Could the blood in stool and the fall be correlated?
Since she is passing blood in stool, it may be indicative of some internal injury or trauma. You are suggested to get her clinically examined by a GP, get CBC, urinalysis and stool (R/E and C/S) examination done. Her treating doctor will get her Imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI) done to detect the pathology causing her discomfort. Her treatment will depend on the pathology detected and her clinical condition.
For relieve she can take Acetaminohen or Combiflam, one SOS when you have pain. She can put pain relieving gels or ointments containing Lidocaine topically but should not massage. Massaging may trigger pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
