Hi,
It is important to seek medical attention if you have a painful bump on your forehead, especially if it has been more than a week and the pain persists. The bump could be a result of a hematoma (a collection of blood) or a
concussion, which may require further medical evaluation and treatment.
You should contact your doctor or go to the nearest urgent care or emergency department to get it checked. They may recommend imaging studies such as an MRI or CT scan to rule out any serious underlying conditions.
In the meantime, you can apply a cold compress to the area for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day, to help reduce swelling and pain. Avoid pressing on the bump and take over-the-counter pain medications such as
acetaminophen or
ibuprofen as needed for pain relief.
It is important to monitor any symptoms such as
dizziness, confusion, difficulty with memory or concentration, nausea or vomiting, or vision changes, as these could be signs of a more serious
head injury.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
