Suggest Treatment For Painful Cyst On The Buttocks

My daughter recently had a baby...almost 3 weeks ago. She has an awful, painful cyst on her buttocks. We have been putting hot compresses on it and it became difficult for her to walk, the pressure was so great. I went over yesterday and saw it had a head on it, sterilized a needle, punctured it once, and it drained most of the day. It was very painful, but this let off the pressure so she could nurse and it felt so much better. Now I m concerned about infection. A doctor had diagnosed it as a pilonidal cyst....told her to go home and come next week. She gave her augmenting to take since she is nursing. Do we need to do anything else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
go back to the doctor, as the cyst can be filled again causing pain, it needs to be treated either by excision or marsupialisation, depending on the size, treatment choice will be according to the surgeon and patient's choice.
