Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do you recommend treatment for a bursa on an elbow for a man who s 79. He s on blood thinner and the Dr didn t want to drain it. He saw the Dr a week ago but it is becoming more painful. They did X-ray it. I m checking on line to see if ice might be helpful. Several wraps or one Osmo patch is advertised on line and it says it will drain overnight using it every night. Thanks!
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I will try to help you as much as I can. It is most likely a condition called bursitis which ma be caused by trauma or by any other irritation of cubital bursa, a small fat pad in elbow. At this point your should rest with elbow, apply ice, take nonsteroid painkilllers and elevate your arm and put elastic compress. . It should lead to symptom improvement within 12 hours. Later,if there is no improvement, it would be advisable to do xrays and see if fracture exist. Also, hematoma or seroma accumulation may persist and then elbow punction and fluid evacuation should be done by doctor. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you good health.
