I have spots that flare up in pain as if on fire on my legs and arms. I scratch them and then they bleed and hurt for months. I have tried tanking down 2 gallons of water a day and stopped scratching and went to rubbing. The pain spots still come but they dont turn into bleeding scars. I have tried to look up the symptoms and all I can find is exema but the pictures look totally different

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It looks like you have a chronic symptom of painful, itchy spots in the legs & arms. Sometime, allergy due to certain food, like pond fishes, sea food, eggs, etc may cause such symptoms. Be careful & observant as to what irritant factor (cosmetics, plants, pollen, chemicals, insects) triggers these symptoms. Avoid it. You can take non sedating antihistamines for relieve. Apply hydrocortisone ointment to reduce itchiness. Take care of your hygiene. Other medical conditions that can cause such symptoms are contact dermatitis, psoriosis, eczema & autoimmune diseases.

You are suggested to get clinically examined & treated by a dermatologist, you may need to get a skin biopsy of the affected area done. In the meantime to rule out scabies you can apply Ascabiol ointment in the area affected & then have a shower. It will clear out if it is scabies. Repeat (local application) after 15 days & wash all your clothes & bedding in dettol.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
