Suggest Treatment For Painful Injury In Toe

Good evening, I had a painful injury to my toe (the one closest to the big toe). I was out when someone literally did the chacha on it. The entire nail plus nail bed and surrounding skin came off. It s been almost a week and is pretty painful. It hasn t dried up either which has me a bit worried. It doesn t seem to have an infection because there is no puss and it just seems to be dark red and swollen. But I constantly feel pain there and throbbing. Is it normal? I hate going to an ER for something so small as a toenail. Seems like a waste of time to go, but I m a bit worried that it will never grow back or my foot will fall off because I am being negligent. Not sure if there is something I should put on other than Neosporin. I clean twice a day with soap and water. Then pass an alcohol swab on it. Let it dry. Then Neosporin. Any direction is welcome because it does hurt and I would like to put on closed shoes again:) Ps I have oicturss

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to the injury.
I suggest using a n anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen to relieve the pain.
I also suggest to maintain the area clean and cover it with Neosporin cream.
You can use a clean bandage to cover the area.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
