Suggest Treatment For Painful, Itchy Bumps On Scalp And Neck

Hi, my husband has a few bumps that appeared on his scalp and also one on his neck after going out on a boat for fishing. The one on his neck is just a small lump under his skin, but the ones on his scalp look like a small sore but I think they look like that because he scratches them more than the one on neck. He says that they are very painful, itchy & that it feels as though things are crawling inside his head not outside like if it were lice. Can you maybe give me some possibilities of what this may be?

Hello,

Your husband is suffering from painful itchy bumps on the scalp and neck. He is suggested to resist scratching, it can exacerbate inflammation and make the scalp pain worse. He should be gentle with his hair and keep scalp clean, he should shampoo his hair with Selsun shampoo daily or even twice a day. He should avoid the use of scented soaps, lotions and shampoos instead use antibacterial products or herbal products. His symptoms are indicative of fungal infections. He can apply antifungal creams (Clotrimazole) on the affected area.

He can take non sedating antihistamines to reduce symptoms of allergy and inflammation. He can take a course of antifungal (Fluconazole). The symptoms should reduce and he should get relief in 5-7 days. If not, he should get clinically examined by a dermatologist, your dermatologists may ask you to get allergy tests (on the skin or blood tests), blood work (to rule out an illness or infection), skin biopsy, etc. If hives are detected your husband will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
