Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes I apparently pulled my hamstring. I just woke up one night about 2 weeks ago to some painful leg cramps and thought taking ibuprofen would be helpful but it was very painful to sit in the car and drive. I went to the Dr. on Monday and started Therapy only 2 days out of the week for the past 2 weeks. I can feel the knots in my right leg but they have moved to the outer right side of my right leg. I feel the knots and so does the therapist. Some people keep telling me it could be my sciatic nerve. I felt the pain in the back below my right butt check in the middle back of my thigh, behind my right knee and in my right calf. I used a rice bag heated in the microwave which helped considerably but like I said it moved to the outter part of my right leg and I tried running a ball over the knot and that is rather painful. Any helpful hints as I ever so slowly heal?
There can be various possible issues such as - Nerve compression at lower spinal cord level - Deficiency of zinc, magnesium or other micro nutrients - Smoking in high doses - Deep vein thrombosis - Raised cholesterol - Uncontrolled diabetes - Others
The therapy depends upon the cause, however, following measures will help you a bit till final diagnosis: - Assisted physiotherapy - Heating pad application - Local use of analgesic spray, ointment - Analgesic with anti-inflammatory medication such as Diclofenac, Etoricoxib or else - Control of blood sugar - Avoid prolong leg dependent positioning
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
