Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a lump in my left armpit about 2 years ago , which became painful and a little larger right before menstrual cycle and then it wasn t painful after the menstrual cycle ended. I got a doctor to check it and he said it could be a lymph node and nothing to worry about. But for the past 6 months there was no sign of it (and also i had irregular menstrual cycles). Again this month i realized the lump is back right before the menstrual cycle starts. I just wanna know if its a serious condition doctor, and appreciate your suggestions.
This painful lump is due to infection of lymph nodes but it needs to be inspected clinically in order to make a diagnosis.
This kind of Lymph node swelling could be due to viral infection (EB virus, adenovirus) or bacterial infection or parasitic infestation (toxoplasmosis) but it is generally not serious means it is not due to cancer. So,no need to be worried about it.
However,it must be evaluated for routine blood counts and lymph node biopsy with thoroughly clincal examination by a specialist.
Treatment is required like antibiotics (macrolides, quinolones or cephalosporins) with analgesics,anti-inflammatory and antihistamines with other supportive treatment.
You should continue with your doctor's advcie for further treatment.
Thanks and regards,
