Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a painful lump inside my tongue for nearly two weeks. I was experiencing a severe bout with my allergies and saw a doctor about treatment because I thought it was a possible sinus infection. My throat was sore, had some difficulty swallowing with no pain, severe sinus headache, and a very stuffy nose. My mouth has been dry recently as well but may be related to the removal of my thyroid (cancer) 11years ago. The lump is closer to the bottom of my tongue on the left side but does not appear to be going away. Never smoked and rarely drink. Nothing relieves it. What can it be? Is there anything I can treat it with?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sore throat , dry mouth , difficulty in swallowing and lump on tongue . Well there can be many reasons for lump on tongue like glossitis due to any irritants and dry mouth condition , Squamous papilloma associated with virus and mouth cancer ( rare chance ) . It seems to me that infection due to sore throat and dryness is causing lump on tongue and tonsillitis is the reason for difficulty in swallowing . I would suggest to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test , and blood test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics or antiviral drug . Sometimes doctor may recommend tonsillectomy . If condition doesn't get better with time then consult oral pathologist ,he/she may take biopsy to confirm the diagnosis . For now do warm saline gargles .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
