Suggest Treatment For Painful Soreness In Rib Area After Injury
Hello doctor I was walking home from work 2 weeks ago, coming up to my house when i went to open my iron gate, which is bout 3 high, when it got stuck, i tripped on it and basically landed on my middle rib area. There was sharp pain for bout 3 days and then it got a little duller, but the area still is Sore, there is no bruising which is wierd but i feel it under my rib area, not on the surface. Just wondering if it broken or fractured, i have no insurance so im worried. So i thought id ask u

Hi,
You seem to have a contusion over your rib area and experiencing pain because of that. If possible you can get an X ray done for the chest to rule out any fracture or collection of blood in the outer cover of lungs called pleura.
It is not mandatory to get it done if you do not have any other symptom like breathlessness because isolated fracture of a rib doesn't need any specific treatment and it would heal on its own. The only thing you need to rule out is any blood collection in the covering of lung due to the fracture however if such a collection was present then you would have more symptoms like difficulty in breathing / breathlessness.
