Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling And Bruising From Shin To Foot

3 days ago, I was hit by a line drive while playing 3rd base in softball. It instantly was swollen ... very, very swollen. I have iced it and elevated it and taken ibuprofen each day. The swelling has gone done mostly (still a little) and massive bruising from the bottom of my foot to halfway up my shin remains, top of foot wrapping to heel. I can walk on it with only a slight limp. Pain randomly shoots up my shin or in my heel and it is very tender to the touch. Do I keep doing home treatment or go in to the doctor? I am supposed to play again on Friday...

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Good to know that you have done cold compress age limb elevation such will help to reduce the swelling.

It is possible that your may have sustained a fracture which is causing the limp.

It is advisable to show your Orthopaedic surgeon as soon as possible before it gets worse.

Kindly splint your leg and not apply weight on it.

Thanking you.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
